Who could ever stop us?

“That is why we can say with confidence, “The lord is my helper, so I will not be afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?”” Hebrews 13:6
With God on our side we don’t have to be afraid of anything. In him we can stand firm and nothing can overpower us. We need to find that confidence and courage and not let anything hold us back from what he has called us to achieve. With God on our side there is nothing that can stop us from achieving what he has called us to do. Things may look impossible to us right now, but “nothing is impossible with God” Luke 1:37. If God has called you to do something He will give you the strength you need to achieve it. If we are living for Christ, then no matter what the Devil tries to throw at us it will not defeat us, for we know that the power of God is greater.
We need to have that confidence when the devil comes at us. For he will come, and try and tell us that we aren’t good enough, that we are a failure, that God couldn’t redeem us, that we are alone, that we have been forgotten, that we have blown it. We need to see these for the lies that they are. The devil is a liar! Our God is for us, and no-one can stop us. The devil wants to, but we can stand firm on Christ the solid rock.
You may have seen the last Harry Potter movie, Deathly Hallows part 2, where finally they delivered the epic battle that had been brewing for the last few films. And there was a scene I really liked where Neville Longbottom is standing on a bridge, looking out at the hordes of approaching Deatheaters, safe in the knowledge that there is a shield spell stopping them from getting near him (and knowing that when they break through that spell he is going to blow the bridge upon them). And in that confidence he is able to goad the enemy, teasing them for they can’t touch him.

It is a bit like that for us (I guess this is where I lose any readers I had from America’s Bible Belt, can’t see them taking kindly to a Harry Potter comparison…). With God on our side the devil can’t lay a hand on us. There is nothing he can do to separate us from God’s love. We do not have to be defeated by him. When he comes at us we can stare him in the eye and say ‘The victory is Christ’s’. As John tells us in 1 John 4:4 “You belong to God, my dear children. You have already won your fight with these false prophets, because the Spirit who lives in you is greater than the spirit who lives in the world.” The worst the world can do to us is kill us, but because of the cross we know that in death there is something infinitely greater waiting for us. “Living is for Christ, and dying is even better” as Paul puts it (Philippians 1:21).
Stand tall, stand firm, stand strong, stand bold, for he is with you. He is with you! God is with you, upholding you with his victorious right hand (Isaiah 40:10). Shine your light bright like a beacon for the entire world to see, God is with you, and his love never fails! Who could ever stop us with God on our side?
