Chart History Makers

If you have had any sort of exposure to UK Christian music over the past couple of decades chances are you’ll have come across Delirious – they pretty much are the biggest Christian band in the UK. And you may also know they recently split up. Well, some of their fans thought it would be cool to celebrate their musical brilliance by getting them to the top of the charts with a straight out D? Praise song (they previously made it to number 16 in 1999 with a more secular song, but their worship songs have never had any chart success). And when better to do it than at Easter, the most important time in the Christian calendar.
So (as is seemingly the way to do things these days) a Facebook group was set up, the song History Maker was chosen, and then the band found out about it, got behind it, announced the proceeds would be going to the CompassionArt charity project, and things started to spiral. So now there are over 50,000 Facebook fans in support of the campaign, the single is on sale, and doing reasonably well (top of the amazon chart, 11th in iTunes), Martin Smith was on FiveLive this afternoon during prime drive time to talk about it and the chances are it will chart as Delirious’ highest song. Basically it’s somewhat like the Rage against the machine campaign, but without the F words.
So why am I telling you about this? Because basically while it is doing quite well, at the moment it isn’t on course to get to the original target of number one. Which is where you come in! For 49p on Amazon (or 79p on iTunes) you can not only help get the Christian message onto national music radio this Easter Sunday by getting it high up in the charts, you will also be raising money for the very worthy CompassionArt cause. There are 2 versions (sales of which get combined into 1 for the chart position) – the original studio version and a brand new live version from their final ever show. Both are great and well worth checking out. Even if you already have the original, you should look into the live version, which includes a new ‘talk’ segment from Martin Smith in it.
For full details, including links for the all important downloads if you are unsure how to go about finding History Makers in your legal download store of choice go to Invade the Airwaves. Buy the song, help it chart, but don’t just do that, actually live it out. Be a history maker. Believe in the power of prayer. Live for God. See miracles.

  • my only worry is that it seems like we’re seeking to share the awesome musical brilliance of delirious rather than the glory of our awesome God his saving grace?
