It looked like the end. It seemed like defeat. The story paused on Friday with Jesus dead, buried in a tomb.
The light of the world slain for us
Hanging on the cross He died for us
But the story doesn’t end there
For death could not hold him down
The grave could not contain the power of his name
On the third day He rose again triumphant
We do not worship a dead man
Oh death where is your victory?
Oh death where is your sting?
We worship the risen King!
None can come to the Father but through Christ
But because of the cross the way is open for all
All can come to the Father through Christ
Who died for all the world
The ultimate act of love.
Our deeds could not restore the relationship with God
We could never pay of the debt of sin
But where we were stained and broken
He makes us white as snow
Now all who call on His name are welcomed in
Welcomed into the Kingdom of God
The place we were made to dwell
A gift we do not deserve
A gift we can not earn
A gift free for us all
A gift that cost Him his all
So call, call on his name
Turn from your past
Turn from your shame at last
For the cross offers the hope a brand new start
The cross speaks of the love in the Father’s heart
How desperately He wants us
How passionately He pursues us
How relentlessly He loves us
For you are wanted
And you are valued
And you are loved
You are loved by God
Because of the cross we have a new identity
No longer defined by our past mistakes
By what we’ve done
Or by who we’ve done
Now, because of the cross we are defined by grace
We’re defined as loved
Now we can be heirs with Christ
For the cross changes everything
The cross frees us to sing
Sing a new song
A song of freedom
A song of hope
A song of the love that flows from the Father’s heart
For the cross gives us the offer of a fresh start
Each and every time we stumble
He is there to pick us up as we fumble
He won’t leave us or forsake us
When we call on His name he promises to save us
If you haven’t called yet then don’t delay
For Jesus is the only way
He is the truth, he is the life
His arms are stretched out
Showing his love
So call on the one who came from above
The one who took our disgrace
The one who died in our place
And showed us amazing grace
““Death is swallowed up in victory.”
“O death, where is your victory?
O death, where is your sting?”
The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.1 Cor 15:55-57
